Tiger’s Milk Sun Coast

hdrpl
8.9tech score

The newly acquired Tiger’s Milk recently opened its doors to Durban boasting its mouth watering menu. No more do we have to wait until we visit the Windy City to partake in their spread of gourmet treats and house beer.

On a recent visit to the venue, which is located in the Sun Coast Casino’s newly renovated dinning wing, I was treated together with 5 of my blogger friends to a taste sensation.

We were treated to a selection of starters that ranged from Nachos, Calamari, wings and more. And what stood out to my taste buds was a bread and butter pudding. If you haven’t tried it yet, do yourself a favour and thank me later.

Durban is sometimes known as sleepy town as compared to Cape Town and Johannesburg, but after visiting Tiger’s Milk on a Friday night, I can safely say that we can put that nonsense to bed.

What make Tiger’s Milk Unique?

  • The food ranges from bar style menu with a gourmet appeal.
  • The location is spectacular. It is situated on the beach facing side of the casino which makes it the ideal spot for day and night visits.
  • It is open mornings and afternoons but quickly transitions into Durban’s hot spot in the evening.
  • Because there are 2 floors, families are able to sit downstairs and enjoy their meals whilst the hip and happening crew can find themselves upstairs chilling to the sounds of the DJ playing.
  • The abundant space available keeps the venue relaxed and not over crowded making it undemanding on the patrons.
  • Although the DJ is playing in the background, I found it easy to have a conversation with my friends without straining to hear.
  • During the week the venue hosts a number of theme nights eg quiz night.

Final Thoughts

The experience I had was splendid with everyone in my company enjoying the night. I did visit the venue unannounced previously during a week day in the afternoon, it was quiet but that can be expected as people are at work. It is the ideal venue to meet friends and enjoy a meal and on occasion even an event.

I wish the staff and management everything of the best.

Introduction to VKATZ and THE BUSHIE

Maria-Valaskatzis-at-DL-Boutique-and-cafe

Wow, it has being a great start to an amazing year, and there is so much to share. Where do I start? Well, the story goes something like this.

Last year I had the privilege of being the “Voice of Essence” in Durban, South Africa. If you do not know what the Essence Festival is, it is a spectacular event that takes place in New Orleans. So, as the sister city, Durban hosted this festival for the very first time in Africa. During my time at the Essence Festival, I got to meet many people, and the two that stuck out the most was Sherwyn Weaich, also known as The Gourmet Bushie and the best videographer I have ever worked with Jay Mabwe.

Little did we realize that a few months later we will be producing a show together.

So here it is, a collaboration between a celebrity Chef, a fashionista and of course the videographer. We present to you, VKATZ and TheBushie.

During the course of the season, our aim is to teach you cooking skills

DL Boutique and Cafe

Maria-Valaskatzis-at-DL-Boutique-and-cafe

DL Boutique and Cafe is located at the exquisite Pearls Mall in Umhlanga Durban. This new hot spot fuzes fashion with food making it a stylish eating experience.

DL Boutique and Cafe boasts its very own celebrity chef, The Gourmet Bushie.

About the Chef

  • The Gourmet Bushie is a brand created by Sherwyn Sean Weaich.
  •  A government school educated, township raised, mixed race citizen and a proud product of the new South Africa with, “old school values.”

His cooking centres around Food, Family, Friends and this is the ethos upon which this fabulous restaurant is built on.

The menu at the restaurant is quite an easy one, where you can find a health bar that serves Multi grain snacks, a salad bar, gourmet burgers, sandwiches and lets not forget the delectable dessert menu. Apart from the tasty food and drinks selection, I love the fact that they have incorporated fashion into the mix.

The Designer Label Boutique offers young designers as well as manufacturers a platform to showcase their apparel. The boutique is found at the end of the restaurant where you will find everything a woman needs, from shoes, accessories and not to mention the stylish garments.

The Good Food and Wine Show Township Cookout

The afternoon started of like no other, besides abandoning my car at the side of the road, I hoped onto a bus, yes, a bus in anticipation for my very first township experience. In true Durban weather, the sun shone its very brightest as if teasing me because there was no air-conditioning in the bus. But that did not distract me from what awaited.

Seven celebrity chefs and food personalities who are part of the Food and Wine show eagerly awaited the arrival of media and bloggers who were treated to a cook off at the award winning Cafe Skyzer in Chesterville.

Durban Tourism who are proud platinum partners with Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa will be hosting the Durban Food and Wine Show.

Meet the Chefs

  1. Claire Allen is a Cape Town based chef however was originally residing in Dundee in KwaZulu Natal. Claire was an entrant is Master Chef South Africa in 2014, but has since then spent her time travelling the world and learning more about her art. Last year she launched Short Chef Skinny Chef with Siphokazi Mdlankomo.
  2. Jenny Morris who you may know as the Giggling Gourmet. She has many accolades under her belt including author, radio and TV presenter as well as chef to name but just a few.
  3. Kamini Pather won the title of Master Chef South Africa in 2013 and has since continued living her food dream.
  4. Lents Bhengu is a proudly Kwazulu Natal product, after showing keen interest in food enrolled in the Culinary Academy in the Cape Winelands. Lents is a regular MC and chef of food festivals, events and expos.
  5. Neill Anthony is a Cape Town based private chef who trained in the kitchens of Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and other big international cooking greats.
  6. Sherwyn Weaich also known as the Gourmet Bushie has travelled across South Africa and Europe cooking alongside great local and international chefs.
  7. Siphokazi Mdlankomo who was a domestic worker, stole the hearts of many as she cooked her way to the final of the third season of Master Chef South Africa.

The seven celebrity chefs cook off in Chesterville as part of the Durban Good Food and Wine Show was a great success, not only did we get to meet the chefs, but we got to experience them in action, and the best part was that we got to sample their cooking.
